I can lose track of time and a gentle Staffy reminder is fine by me. Where it becomes a problem is when it is not meal time and your Staffy is seeking treats, extra dinner, or just being generally fussy. If you keep to a strict feeding schedule I suggest you do the same. Reinforcing the whining and crying behavior by rewarding it through early snacks and meals will only make the noisy behaviors worse.
Feeding your Staffy should be done at the times you set, not the times they set. My Staffy has terrible allergies and can get very uncomfortable. I had friends over last night that come on holiday with us and the dog first time she's seen them since I put her in the kitchen when they first arrived because we had just ordered a take away and Oh my god!
She must have thought we were going back on holiday again but without her because she was making the must awful sounds like you describe. And Nala , who loves other dogs and may get frustrated if she is not allowed to have playtime with her friends.
